Yusuf lives a wealthy lifestyle with his businessman dad, Safdarjang, who is confined to a wheel-chair. When Yusuf's precocious nephew, Khalid alias Phirangi's tutor, Mrs. Albert complains about him and quits, Yusuf hires Shabana, who along with her granny, have come to live with them for a short period of time. He also hires a man named Khairudin as a servant to look after his dad. Yusuf and Shabana are attracted to each other and intend to marry, much to the joy of Safdarjang and the granny. The wedding preparations are on, but there are a couple things Yusuf and his family do not know. One is that Shabana is the daughter of a Courtesan named Najma; and that Khairudin has secured employment in order to kill Yusuf.

The region of Jungela and Takt Hazar have been embroiled in hatred for centuries. Now a young man named Ranjha from Takt Hazar, who lives with several brothers and their respective wives, has fallen in love with a young woman named Heer from Jungela. His brothers will not permit him to marry outside the region, while the parents of Heer are agreeable. But when Ranjha does not show up on the wedding night, they arrange her marriage with another suitor by the name of Saheda Khan, even though Heer does not give her consent to the marriage, she is married. After the marriage, Ranjha comes to meet with Heer and their romance is rekindled, much to the chagrin of Saheda, who wants Heer to follow the Shariyat Law, obey him, sleep with him, and shun Ranjha. Heer refuses to do so and Saheda calls upon the Islamic Clergy, who are unable to convince Heer. Then the Maharaja gets involved when he finds out that Heer has been forcibly married.

Gone are the days (and the movies) when the Indian daughter-in-law stood by silently and got abused and slapped around by her mother-in-law, sisters-in-law, et al. Here, the daughter-in-law has not only her cruel and intimidating mom-in-law, but also her equally cruel, sister-in-law by the hair, and some may say, well under her thumb. A glaring and perhaps a light-hearted look at the evil of dowry, and lack of which still does result in cruelties being inflicted even on well educated and cultured women in modern yet secular and tradition-bond India.

While studying in Aligarh, Anwar Hussain Anwar falls in love with a veiled woman and is unable to get her out of his mind. Enroute to Lucknow, they meet with Nawab Buland Akhtar Changezi, and subsequently meet with him a few days later so that he can use his influence to secure an editor's job for Anwar with a magazine. Nawab then asks Anwar to teach his sister, Husna, some poetry, to which he agrees, and eventually finds that she is the very same veiled woman. Both fall in love with each other and the Nawab approves of this alliance even though Anwar lives a poor lifestyle. The formal engagement ceremony takes place and arrangements are made for the wedding to take place soon. The heavily indebted Nawab does not realize that soon he will find Anwar in the company of a lowly courtesan, Najma; and pressure will be brought on him to get Husna to marry wealthy Munne Raja - who is all set to auction the former's mansion as well as belongings.

After meeting the love of his life at his sister's wedding, Deepak decides to take Rajini to meet his own mother, she fully approves of Rajni and all seems well. However, when Rajni returns after meeting with her mother about the wedding, she claims she never loved Deepak.

Deepak`s family consists of his widowed mother, and a sister, Sheela, he lives as an House Surgeon in Sarvodaya Hospital in Bombay, while his mom and sister live in a small town. On the occasion of Sheela`s marriage, he returns home, and meets Sheela`s friend, Rajni, who is s student and lives in Marina Guest House, Colaba, Bombay, and falls in love with her. After the marriage, they return to Bombay, and their luggage gets mixed-up. They meet again and decide they want to spend the rest of their lives together. Deepak introduces Rajni to his mother, who instantly approves. Then Deepak goes to meet with Rajni`s mother. It is here he will find out that Rajni has not informed her mother about him, and when he meets with Rajni, she refuses to have to do anything with him anymore. Deepak`s mother meets with Rajni, and also comes to the conclusion that both are not suited for each other, but refuses to tell Deepak what the reason is.

The youngsters notify Henryk's wife of his whereabouts.
